Welcome to the Star Club

The Star Club is a playscheme/holiday club for children of both pre-school and school age (3-11 years old). It is open every holiday in line with Starcross Primary School holidays from 8.00am to 6.00pm daily, except for Mondays, (with the exception of the summer holiday) weekends and bank holidays. It offers a safe, caring and stimulating environment where children can form friendships and have fun. Our staff are well-trained and experienced, and create a positive, supportive and creative atmosphere for the children. Snacks will be provided at regular intervals throughout the day, and drinks will be available at all times. Children will need to bring their own packed lunch if they will be present over the lunch period. A display board is inside the setting along with photo albums from previous holidays which are available to view; a 'meet the team' display board along with profiles are also available to view. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis, and bookings must be paid for in advance to secure your child's place. Booking forms are available from Starcross Pre-school, the after-school club and the school office at Starcross Primary School. The Star Club is run by a volunteer committee called the Management Team. In February 2009, the Management Team reformed as a new committee that oversees the Star Club directly. Whilst many of them are from Starcross, quite a number come from the surrounding villages. It is noticeable how well children at the club get on together and they clearly enjoy mixing with each other and the family atmosphere that the mixed age group brings. One child at the club told us recently that what they liked about coming to us was the chance to meet children from different schools. Comments by parents/carers and children We seek the views of everyone in the club regularly so as to review what we do and try to make it even better. A typical recent comment from a parent is: “I feel Star Club is an essential resource for us a working family and I am so grateful you are there and that the kids enjoy it so much.” It is particularly important that parents/carers tell us about the particular needs of your individual children so that we can look after them in the best possible way. Food and drink We provide a mid morning and mid afternoon snack with an emphasis on healthy eating and drinks are available at all times. Children staying for lunch bring their own packed lunch which is eaten in a family group. Arrival and departure The Playleader on duty meets all parents/cares and children on arrival and we ask you to complete a brief registration form for the day. When you collect them we ask you to sign for their collection. If you are unable to collect your child due to unforeseen circumstances please make alternative arrangements and telephone the club to make sure that we have a clear instruction from you about this. What to bring Please ensure that your child comes with suitable clothes and shoes for indoor and outdoor play and ones which don’t mind the odd splash of paint, glue or clay. Loose, comfortable clothes are best and an apron or over-shirt would be helpful. Unless the weather is very wet we will take children outside to play, so please ensure they have a waterproof coat when it is wet or a sunhat in hot sunny weather. Medication Please complete a medication form obtainable from the playleader if your child needs any medicine whilst attending the club and give the medication to the playleader. We will then ensure that medicine is administered according to prescribed instructions. Confidentiality Information about your child will be treated in strict confidence and will only be given to appropriate persons on a need to know basis.
